Baseball is wrapping up.
It was a tough season on the little guy. Last year he was in the 3-5 year old team and fit in nicely---most kids were 3.
This year in the CYC league he was slotted by age. In comparison to his peers his combined skills (hand/eye and gross/fine) are still far behind.
I used to think that little girls could be cruel......but boys on a sporting field are in a whole different league. And Garrett doesn't miss a beat on the cognitive side of things so he was painfully aware of the ridicule from the other boys and he was more than aware that he was not keeping up.
It was a tough call to keep him in knowing that the doctors indicate that it will take just as many year of malnutrition (4.5) to catch him up to his peers (age 9) in the fine/gross motor skills. And he just didn't seem to have any fun! But we kept him in and tried our best to show him the positive slant to it all :-(
Swimming and Karate seem to be a perfect suit for him - so we are going to skip soccer this yeaer :-)
