Garrett Update

Garrett is on to stage 2 of his orthodontic adventure. First they straightened up his lower teeth (they were tilted inward toward his tongue). He wore that uncomfortable retainer and we "cranked" it twice a week and he was a champ! Now he has TWO new retainers. One is a permanent (for 18months) over his top teeth/roof (RPE = rapid palate expander) and this is used to expand the teeth outward and make room on the upper teeth. Right now the upper teeth bite behind they lower and they are supposed to be biting outside of the lower. The lower retainer is a stack (the heighth of your pinkie) to prevent his upper and lower teeth from touching and thus getting in the way of the upper teeth moving. This would have been extremely determental to his speech but after much discussion we have come up with a night/TV only routine to allow him to NOT have to wear the lower one all the time :-) One happy momma and boy! There are many more steps to come..........
